Recipe: The famous (or infamous, depending on who you talk to) “Mrs. Fields’ Cookie Recipe”

Made... "like a boss"

I have been getting requests to post it in its entirety, along with pics. This recipe was made for Thanksgiving, and its definitely an oldie but a goodie. You know they’re a hit when your sister asks you to make them again at Christmas.

I think what makes them interesting is processing the oatmeal in the blender to blast it into a fine powder. Big difference in taste, for sure. And, the cookies hold together at lot easier too.

The recipe version I had yielded a huge amount, so I only used half. That still made about 50 good sized cookies. And, you can freeze the rest of the dough for use at Christmas. That helps me because I usually make tins of baked goodies to give out as gifts, and that’s one less batch to make.

One more thing… the recipe advises about 10 minutes baking time. I went for 12, but that’s a personal preference.

And now, without further ado, here you go:

Ingredients (the 1 batch version):
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 Hershey bar, plain (2oz)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup pecans (be creative, throw in some chopped macadamia nuts and walnuts also because they rule)
  • 1 1/4 cup oatmeal
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 package chocolate chips (6oz)
Instructions:
  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  2. Cream together butter, sugar, brown sugar. Add egg and vanilla.
  3. Put small amounts of oatmeal in blender; blend until it turns to powder; set aside.
  4. Grate Hershey Bar in blender or by hand; set aside. Mix powdered oatmeal, flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
  5. Combine all of the above ingredients except chocolate; mix well.
  6. Add chocolate chips and grated Hershey Bar.
  7. Make golf ball sized cookies (about 2″), spaced 2″ apart.
  8. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet using a layer of parchment paper for 10-12 minutes.

Makes about 50.

  • 24 oz. Chocolate chips
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 8 oz. Hershey Bar (grated)
  • 5 cups blended oatmeal
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 tsp. Baking powder
  • 2 tsp. Vanilla
  • 3 cups chopped nuts (your choice)

Same instructions as the small batch version.
