Malachy - 2012 Westminster Best in Show

Some comments from around the interwebs:

“That thing’s a dog?!?! It looks like some sort of hairy alien species!”

“Sorry, but that is one ugly worthless breed.”

“If you shaved a Pekinese it would be a dead ringer for the parasite in Shivers.”

“A caterpillar on steroids. Creepy.”

That really chaps my hide. Admittedly, I didn’t really know much about them, but 7 years ago, when my Bear first waddled into my life, I realized that the Pekingese is a breed of dog with a charm that’s irresistible. He’s very gentle with cats, loves kids, and makes a great watchdog. On the other hand, he’s stubborn as hell, gets obnoxious about chicken, and tends to get underfoot when I’m cooking. But, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

Oh and, Pekes don’t look like the parasite from Shivers when you shave them :

If you want to get to know a cool dog, say hi to a Peke. I can assure you they are not aliens and are a worthy breed. I think the Pekingese breed has proven itself as it’s been around for centuries, but that’s just one Peke owner’s opinion 🙂
