Congrats to Bret McKenzie, and other things

I forgot to mention it yesterday, but he won the Oscar for Best Song for “Man or Muppet”. Here he is singing a duet with Kermit on “Life’s a Happy Song”:

In other news, I got my Kung Fu weapons yesterday. I felt like a little kid again, begging my Dad to let me take Karate. He’d say no because little girls didn’t do that, and it was too expensive. Now I get to finally live out the childhood wish, and I’m happy for that. Check it:

It’s stripe testing week, so I’m in for double the world of hurt, but that’s the nature of the week. If you can’t deal with it you don’t get your stripe. This time around I have to qualify in Kung Fu and Krav Maga instead of Kickboxing because I’ve moved up to purple belt. More hurt, but the payoff is worth it. At least, that’s what I keep telling myself πŸ™‚

What I love about Kung Fu is that it really feels like the movements are more traditional, and require a lot of stamina, flexibility, and strength. In a strange way, Yoga sort of prepared me for some of the movements like the horse stance, splits, and stretches. In those moves, breathing has to be part of the movement to keep it going for long periods of time, and Yoga is the same. I like that parallel. However, once you start doing the kicks, blocks, and forms, that’s where the similarities end.

So, I will be complaining for the rest of the week about how sore my body is, but will keep going back because that’s just the way it has to be. Right? RIGHT?? πŸ˜‰
