True Blood series finale: Bill never got to go to Six Flags (review plus spoilers)

August 25, 2014 Leave a comment

So in the end, Soookeh killed Beeeel. It was fitting that she did so, though I thought it was highly unfair that Bill felt she had to use her fairy power to do it for her sake. It’s who she was, why should she give it up? Makes life more interesting I’d say. I did get sad during their farewell, but then she staked him (sans Fairy power) and that was that. At least True Blood had the guts to go that far. So many series finales just leave things hanging. Put a stake in it and be done already!

I could have wished that somehow Sookie and Eric had kept up their dalliance, but evidently he wanted to appear in infomercials and she wanted to get pregnant with some man’s baby. Couldn’t even see the poor dude’s face, that’s how much he mattered to the story.

My favorite part:

Eric getting down

So it’s the end of the series. It had a lot of issues there towards the end, but was still escapist fun for me. I’m actually reading the Sookie Stackhouse novels since I hadn’t gotten around to them before, and I must say the first two made my time at the airport way more interesting last week. I look forward to continuing the series.

Bye, True Blood. It was fun.

My favorite scene in Guardians of the Galaxy, plus some thoughts on the EnCe (forensics) and the art of clumsiness

August 24, 2014 2 comments

Hey y’all… been out for the EnCe Prep Course. Pleased to say that I passed the written part, and now I have to work on the practical. My recommendation is that if you’re going to take the written exam and don’t feel that you’re prepared enough from going through the study guide, sign up for the prep course. Yes it’s expensive (unless you have the training pass or are lucky enough to get it paid for by your organization) but it’s worth it. Make sure you have taken Forensics I and II because they will ask you to send proof. If you haven’t take those two classes, the Bootcamp package will include it in “onDemand” format. I prefer to go to training myself because in my work environment it’s hard to get time away enough to do computer based training and I work better under a live instructor, but that’s just me.

The test is hard, not going to lie. 2 hours, 150 questions, and you absolutely have to keep track of time throughout. If you have any additional questions about the written test, send a comment. I may or may not be able to answer depending on what it is, but I’ll try to help as much as possible 🙂

The day before I actually flew out for the prep course, I managed to fracture my toe by tripping over my suitcase. That’s how clumsy I can actually be, folks. Talk about pain. One of the hardest things I ever had to do was make the choice to fly out the next day, but I couldn’t exactly cancel on the prep course and flight, could I? No refunds at that late date. So, I turned off the fear in my head and went. Still hobbling a week later (and my toes are still a nice shade of blue), but I’m confident it’ll heal. Note: If you go in for a toe fracture, 9 times out of 10 the doctor will not give you warning he or she is going to set it. I screamed, and I didn’t care who heard me at that point. But do see a doctor right away. You don’t want it to heal wrong.

Anyway, now that I’m back home and getting back into work mode, I thought I’d share a video that kept my spirits up during trainings. Actually, any time I need a smile, I click on it. It’s the scene in Guardians of the Galaxy where baby Groot is dancing. I debated posting it for some time because some could see it as a spoiler, but then Marvel released it due to popular demand. So, why not.

Fun fact: James Gunn (director of the movie) did the dancing for baby Groot. Apparently he threw everyone off set, turned on a video camera and got jiggy. Then, he sent it off to the animators for the scene and made them promise to never show the video to anyone. Homie’s got some moves 🙂 Remember: dance like no one’s watching whenever you feel the need. It’ll get you in a good mood quick.

If you need a laugh (video included)

There are times where something completely random puts me in a laughing fit. I don’t know why, but I just go with it. This video is pretty much the embodiment of one of those fits. Enjoy if you get them too.

This is from an episode of Big Brother Denmark. It is in Danish, but I think we can get away without a translation.

A new/old favorite: PB2 and why I love it

So if you’ve never heard of it, PB2 is basically peanut butter in powdered form, but with a lot of the fat and calories taken out. It comes in two flavors, Regular and Chocolate. Yes, I said it, Chocolate. And kids, it really does taste like peanut butter and chocolate.

Here’s the nutritional info:

Compare it to regular Jif Natural peanut butter:

PB2 vs. Jif: a nutritional comparison

If you love peanut butter like I love peanut butter but are trying to watch your caloric and fat intakes, consider getting a jar of this stuff. It used to be that I had to order it online only through (and you still can order it there plus view their recipes), but now my local stores like HEB and Wal Mart are stocking PB2. I never thought they would, but miracle of all miracles, it happened.

PB2 works very well on its own (just had a sandwich with the chocolate flavor and I was in heaven, y’all), or it works just as well in shakes. Shakeology, protein shakes, heck even milkshakes, PB2 adds a nice nutty flavor to them all. And, it’s easy to mix into the shakes. I always hated having to clean out my blender because regular peanut butter would just stick to the sides. Annoy-ing. Since it’s in powder form, PB2 does not have this same issue.

So if you’re looking for healthy snack ideas, consider PB2.

Guardians of the Galaxy review: a rip rocking good time (Spoilers possible)

August 3, 2014 2 comments

I’d been waiting for months to catch this movie in the theaters. And let me tell you, it didn’t disappoint. Starring Chris Pratt (Andy Dwyer in one of my favorite shows, Parks and Recreation), Zoe Saldana (is she in like every Sci Fi movie released lately?), Dave Bautista (he used to wrestle with Ric Flair and Triple H, y’all), and the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, Guardians of the Galaxy takes the Marvel Universe fun from the usual home base of Earth to outer space.

So the story goes like this: Peter Quill, aka Starlord (Pratt), is a human who pretends to be an almost Indiana Jones, but instead of yelling “It belongs in a museum!” constantly, he just steals relics that are worth a lot of money. Gamora (Saldana) is a Zen Whoberis who has an association with Thanos (Josh Brolin) and Ronan (Lee Pace), and she’s after the same relic as Quill but for different reasons. They form an unlikely alliance with three criminals, Rocket Racoon (Cooper) and his sidekick Groot (Diesel), an Ent looking being who loves a dance, and Drax the Destroyer (Bautista), a big bad burly dude who has an issue with metaphors and carries a raging desire to murder Thanos. And rightly so, because Thanos is a Titan on a quest to destroy the universe and he likes to kill for fun.

(For you Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. viewers, you get to spend some time with the Krees. How cool is that?)

Standout performances for me: Pratt (of course), Bautista and Cooper. I tend to think Cooper overacts (American Hustle comes to mind), but he really nailed Rocket’s anger and snarkiness. Pratt is an old favorite, and it’s nice to see his comic chops translate from the small screen to the big one. I mean come on, how can you not like him?

Dave Bautista knocked it out of the park. Believe it, the wrestler turned actor stole the show. Evidently, he was so intent on doing a good job that he went out and got tons of acting lessons, and it shows. His comedic and dramatic chops were on point. Plus obviously, the action sequences were crazy good. My husband thought that maybe his body was somewhat CGI, but nope. That’s him all right:

Drax the Destroyer/ Dave Bautista

If you like the Marvel movies, go see this one. It’s great. Stay after the credits for some interesting footage.

Yoga and Cats… they seem to go together

August 1, 2014 2 comments

I don’t know if you have this problem, but whenever I’m practicing Yoga at home, all the critters in the household feel the need to come by and inspect me and my mat. If I’m in Mountain Pose, no problem. However, there were a few times where I was trying Crane, and a certain feline felt the need to headbutt me when I finally gained balance. It was all over after that.

They can get nosy and annoying, but I still love them.

Enjoy these videos of cats wanting to be part of the Yoga action 🙂
