Tater Tot Waffle, or what happens when I get an idea in my head

Tater Tot Waffle

I love tater tots. However, frying them with oil isn’t something I like to do very often, and baking them kind of dries them out. I’d heard of folks using their waffle irons for savory dishes, and I thought, why not try tots? Crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, and all I used was cooking spray for the iron.

Serves 4.

Ingredients:

  • Tater tots (frozen)

Directions: In a bowl, microwave the tots for about 4 minutes. Pre-heat the waffle iron and spray with cooking spray top and bottom. Layer the tots into the waffle iron and really get them squished in there in all edges. In the pic you can see I missed some spots, unfortunately.

My waffle iron is a standard size, and is the type that you can turn over during the cooking process. I had to squash the tots down pretty hard to get it to turn over, and that’s a good thing. Let cook for 8-10 minutes (I did 9).

Mmm mmm good, and none of the extra fat with oil. I’ve seen posts where some folks add bacon and cheese. Knock yourself out with your extra ingredients. Mine is just plain jane, ready for my favorite ingredient, KETCHUP!

Good times.
