My mom’s garden… some pics

My mother is very proud of her garden. Since retiring from teaching last year, she’s put a lot of time and effort into developing a Zen backyard, with solar powered fountains and comfortable chairs. It’s very cool to see up close. Here are a few photos of her masterwork:

She’s trying to incorporate mostly native plants, but there are a few unique plants thrown in, like Lavender and olive trees and what not. Pretty proud of what she’s done 🙂

Nice, eh? Had to prune the tree of the dead stuff, but this was a good one.

When plants take on a life of their own

February 1, 2011 Leave a comment

We’ve had a pretty interesting winter so far. Most days it’s mild to warm, then a cold snap for a few days, then back to mild/warm. Consequently, my plants started flourishing early, so much so that yesterday I was able to harvest some tomatoes:

"Big Boy" variety tomatoes from the garden

From left to right... 2 "Big Boy" tomato plants, catnip, and a smaller variety of tomato plant (the name escapes me right now.

We’re due for a hard freeze over the next few days (not a common occurrence). My mission tonight will be to protect these guys as best as I can. I don’t want to lose them 😦
