It’s been a while since I rapped at ya…

That Jim Anchower… funny funny guy (,1020/).

So where to begin. I haven’t done much cooking lately as the semester has gone into full swing in record time. This semester I’ll be finishing up my core requirements, so that makes me happy. It’s been a long road, but worthy.

I made purple belt finally, which allows me to attend Kung Fu classes in addition to Kickboxing and Krav Maga (the three K’s right?) I’ve done a few classes, and love it. This quarter we’re going to be using tonfas, so that should prove interesting. I’ve ordered mine, but they’re still “In Transit”. I hate that phrase, don’t you? Here’s a pic of a set of tonfas:

Tonfas are a traditional Okinawan weapn used for blocking and striking. Unlike police nightsticks, tonfas are traditionally wielded in pairs.

I also finally ordered Les Mills’ Pump. It arrived yesterday, and Powa gave her approval right away:

It comes with a workout calendar and nutrition guide, plus the bar, weight plates, clips, and DVDs. I didn’t get the Deluxe version with the step because in my mind, it’s cheaper to buy that locally. I’m looking forward to trying it out tonight.ย  If you want more info, feel free to check out their site. And, here’s the intro video again:

All good things must come to an end, and then start all over again

Final exam for my Java programming class is on Tuesday. Then, several weeks of vacation (still have to work the majority of that time though), in which I hope to be playing some Skyrim and get my hands on the Pump DVD workouts (to be released in a few weeks according to those in the know). January will commence with another round of classes (Database and Java II as an elective). I’m taking the same prof for Java II and he’s going to use the same book, so that’s a win win all around.

One thing that irks me is the fact that no matter how good my grades are, there are little to no opportunities for getting a scholarship as a grad student. This means I pay everything out of pocket, with help from a tuition reimbursement program since I work at the college I attend. I don’t know why things are so skewed towards helping the undergrads and not the rest of us, but that’s how I works, I suppose. Not that I’m bitter about it or anything… much, right?

So, in regards to the Pump workouts, from what I understand they will be very similar to the BodyPump classes that are offered in gyms around the country. I used to attend one, and really liked it. What I didn’t like was how crowded the classes were, and sometimes it was hard to get the weights changed around when the instructor would change tracks. Triceps would take light weights, and then a back and shoulder track would take heavier weights. Get them off the bar in under a minute and get ready for the next one!

This time around, Beachbody has partnered with Les Mills to release a home version. The kit will include the weights, so I can’t really estimate how much it’s going to cost. I’m sure it’ll be more than other titles like Turbo Fire and P90X. But, I figure if you estimate how much going to a gym that offers BodyPump costs (in my area probably about 40 bucks and up per month not including signup fees) this will probably prove cheaper in the long run. Plus, there’s no line, I don’t have to drive anywhere, andย  just me in my workout room. No crowds ๐Ÿ™‚

I really like the idea of adding this particular workout to my usual routine. I don’t know if you get this way, but I’m the type of person who likes to change things up pretty often. One day will be Turbo Jam, next will be class at my martial arts school, and another could be a round of Turbo Fire. Being on a cardio machine or running for miles on end gets me bored after a while. So, to add this title to the arsenal is most excellent for me. When I get it I’ll post a review.
